Award for Planning Excellence – North East
The Awards champion the very best examples of planning and planners in the North East. They demonstrate the positive impact planning has on our quality of life and celebrate professional expertise. The Awards are open to all planners, both members and non-members, and all other built environment professions and community groups. Winning or being shortlisted is a clear demonstration of high quality work and professionalism.
Eligibility
All types of planning activity are eligible, including plans, processes, projects and completed schemes. Projects completed in the two years prior to 1 June 2021 are eligible for entry but particular care should be taken not to enter projects prematurely before their impact and outcomes can be assessed satisfactorily. All projects should have had appropriate approvals in place e.g. planning permission, adoption of plans etc.
Submissions must be located within the North East of England, which covers Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, and Redcar and Cleveland.

Chair’s Award – North East
Developing resilience during COVID-19
This year's Chair's Award will acknowledge entrants who have developed resilience during the continued and extraordinary effects arising during COVID. This may include innovative working methods, delivering a high standard of planning services, and safeguarding the physical and mental wellbeing of planners and the public.
Eligibility
The Chair's Award is awarded at the discretion of this year's Chair. Submissions to the RTPI North East Awards for Planning Excellence may be considered for this award. Alternatively 'enter now' to make a nomination directly.
Young Planner of the Year – North East
Description
This award seeks out the brightest RTPI members in the early stages of their careers. Potential candidates can work in any area of the industry. We are looking for outstanding Young Planners who can demonstrate a contribution to planning or significant career achievements in recent years.
Eligibility
Entrants must be in the first 10 years of post-qualification experience and be a current member of the RTPI. A candidate can nominate themselves or they can also be nominated by an employer, colleague or peer.
